Weston, Florida, located directly west of Ft. Lauderdale along I-595, is the largest 100% planned city in the State of Florida. Started by Arvida in the 1980?s, Weston now has a population of more than 50,000 people with that number increasing almost daily. An early spokesperson for the community was long-time resident, Dan Marino, of Miami Dolphins fame. But, do not be misled by the celebrity status. Weston has a home and specialized community (nearly all gated) for every lifestyle or income level. In fact, it is probably the largest, identifiable ?family-oriented? community in South Florida. Weston simply has it all which is why many Weston residents rarely find a need to leave Weston. The Weston Country Club, former home of the Honda Classic, is world-class featuring 2 championship 18- hole golf courses. In addition, Weston has numerous neighborhood type shopping centers, as well as the recently completed Weston Town Center, complete with brick-lined, gas lamp streets, restaurants and local boutiques. When it comes to ?waterfront? living, Weston serves as the prime example that waterfront in Florida is not confined to only the salt variety. Weston has a network of lakes so extensive that it is impossible to go anywhere there without seeing water. Homes with a waterfront position, as with any mention of ?waterfront?, command significantly higher prices. A few years ago, Weston incorporated the older, existing community of Bonaventure, along with its famous Bonaventure Resort & Spa. How could any community be complete without its own full-service resort? Weston is located with prime highway access at the intersection of I-75, I-595 and the Sawgrass Expressway. The Florida Turnpike is also not far away, just a few minutes drive south on I-75. A trip to the Ft. Lauderdale beaches is little more than one-half hour by car. The commute to downtown Miami is a little more than one hour. |
